The New Jersey Real Estate commission require an agent to take all 3 Broker courses prior to being eligible to take the New Jersey Real Estate Broker’s Exam. Although anyone can take these courses for knowledge and insight, you must meet the State requirements if you would like to take the Broker’s exam. The following 3 courses are required in the 3 Broker course series: 1. General Broker Course (90 Hours) - This course covers, in depth, New Jersey real estate law and rules and regulations. Also covered are: agency, ethics, contracts, appraisal, federal law, fair housing, title, taxes, deeds, ownership methods, mortgage financing, property disclosure, and many other related subjects. Cost is $495 2. Ethics & Agency Course (30 Hours) - his course strives to strengthen the candidate’s knowledge of agency law, dual agency and its inherent conflicts, the difference between law and ethics, unethical behavior, code of ethics, fiduciary responsibilities and other related material. Cost is $250 3. Broker Office Management (30 Hours) - Among the subjects covered in this course are; How do you open a new company or branch office, importance of trust account, recruiting, maintaining agents, closings, office systems and procedures, and much more. Cost is $250 You may take these courses in any order to meet the State Requirement. MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS*: All Broker applicants must have been licensed and working as a salesperson on a full time basis for a minimum of 3 years for the time period immediately proceeding the date of application. Once you have completed the Experience & Education requirements you can apply to the N.J.R.E.C. for approval to take the State Licensing Exam. Broker Package Deal Register to take all 3 Broker Courses and pay only $845 You must register for all 3 Broker course series at the same time to receive the package price. 3 BROKER COURSE SERIES REQUIREMENTS: 90 Hour Brokers General Course 30 Hour Ethics and Agency Course 30 Hour Office Management & Related Topics Broker Candidates must complete all three Broker courses in order to qualify for the State examination. NEW JERSEY REAL ESTATE BROKER REQUIREMENTS* To qualify for a broker's license an applicant must have a high school education or equivalency and must successfully complete 150 hours of pre-licensure education. Applicants must first complete a 90-hour general real estate course, and then two 30-hour courses on Agency/Ethics and Office Management and related topics. In addition, applicants must have been continually licensed and employed on a full-time basis as a New Jersey real estate salesperson for the three years immediately preceding application. After completion of all three courses applicants must submit to the Education Qualification Section of the Commission their completed school certificate and a completed Experience Report For Broker Applicant form. Following review and approval, the applicant will be mailed a Certificate of Examination Eligibility, which may be used to make a reservation to take the Broker license examination. An applicant must pass the broker license examination and apply for and request the issuance of a license as a broker or broker-salesperson not later than one year after their successful completion of the broker pre-licensure education requirements. CONVICTIONS/PAROLE/PROBATION If an applicant has ever been convicted of a crime, or is currently on parole or probation their application for a real estate license may be denied. See N.J.S.A. 45:15-9, 45:1512.1 and 2A:168A-1 et seq.
