As with any vehicle, commercial fishing vessels are exposed to the wear and tear that comes with continued use and exposure to the elements. In this course, a combination of lecture and hands-on training, you will receive detailed information about engine maintenance, troubleshooting and equipment overhaul. Learn about individual fuel systems and the processes for applying lubrication. Work with cooling systems and a gather an appreciation of the role of water pumps. Learn to examine hydraulic systems for faulty components and gain an understanding of transmission repair. Also, discover the importance to vehicle operation that regular cleaning and weatherizing can accomplish. Lastly, gain an appreciation of the safety procedures to prevent damage to the vessel and accidental injuries to passengers.
