The American Heart Association ACLS course is designed for medical providers such as physicians, nurses, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, paramedics, respiratory therapists and other professionals whose daily occupation requires them to either direct or participate in the resuscitation of a patient, whether in or out of a hospital. Typically designed for individuals that work in a critical-care setting such as the intensive care unit or the emergency department and not entry-level individuals, the course requires the ability to manage the person's airway, initiate IV access, read and interpret electrocardiograms and understand emergency pharmacology. This course consists of didactic, practice sessions, performance testing, as well as a written end-of-course test. ACLS course completion and continuing education will be awarded to all participants meeting course requirements.
